My Marlene is a one woman show about a cross-dressing bisexual pioneer from Hollywood’s golden era: Marlene Dietrich. This immersive, confessional theatre experience transforms the audience into the Allied soldiers Marlene Dietrich entertained during the final years of World War II as an act of defiance against Nazism. Here on the front lines, Marlene unveils her contradicting faces of a selfless war hero, impeccable Housefrau (in tails) with a long line of lovers to satiate her undying romanticism, and a militaristic matriarch. Interspersed with her songs and private letters, My Marlene seduces the audience while bombs fall all around. 

With imagery evoking German Expressionism and the dynamic days of the birth of Cinema, it reveals the story of Marlene’s life and times. The period songs, with their acidic, cynical tone, so characteristic of that Weimar Decadence, serve to highlight Marlene’s status as an erotic pioneer with her whimsical gender fluidity dressing as it pleased her, sometimes masculine and sometimes feminine, in both her art and personal life. 

As authoritarianism rises across the globe and Trump wages war on immigrants, trans rights, women’s bodies, and democracy itself, My Marlene hits home, now more than ever, and becomes an urgent reflection of resistance.

Pangea is New York’s iconic restaurant / cabaret dinner theater. All shows have a $20 food and/or beverage minimum per person (unless otherwise indicated on your ticket.)

Tickets online are $20. Tickets at the door, if available, are $25 (Cash Only).

Seating for the performance begins at 9pm.  *Guests may arrive earlier and have dinner in the front lounge. It will apply towards the minimum.

Please note the ticket price goes mostly to the performers and production staff. The club sells food and beverages to continue to bring live music to NYC.
